Role: Power Sensor

Today, when Will is alone, they will receive a text message from Aquamarine Fox.
Linger for too long, and they will find Fox's own prinny at their side, ushering them toward the Storybook Cafe. Upon arrival, it leads them toward the back and out into the courtyard, where Aquamarine Fox waits at a table with two cups of tea, a small plate of pastries, and a wan smile.
"Thanks for coming. You've got an important job to do from now on."
On their phone, Will will find a new app available to them: POWER SENSOR. In the app, they will find a set of rules that they must accept in order to continue:
After reading the rules and accepting, Will will be greeted with a new screen containing the aforementioned list. Once they've made their choice for the week and closed the app, they will not be able to open it again, nor will anyone else will be able to see or access the app or the information within.
"With any luck," says Fox, still wearing that small smile, "this will be able to help you tomorrow. If you have any questions, I'm here to help."

Hey hey! Can you come to the cafe ASAP? I know it's a rough morning, but we've got some stuff to talk about.

RULES1. Once a week, the Power Sensor will be given a list of powers and items that have been used from Monday to Friday morning of that week.
2. From this list, the Power Sensor may choose one power or item to gain more information on.
3. The Power Sensor must keep this role a secret.

[more people! keep dying! and he hates it. he seems tired.
but at least he is not dead?]

[ they sigh. ]
I'm sorry this job can't do anything to help prevent it.

I think... statistically, the powers are more likely to have been used on Thursday night than the items. Catch Me If You Can was on the list last week, and people mentioned there was a spot where it seemed weird that the blood just... stopped suddenly, so that was probably Norma, right?
[he heaves a sigh.]
... it's a relief not to see any of our powers on the list this week.
no subject
[ they give will a weak smile. ]
It's not a guarantee that one of us wasn't involved... but I'm glad, too.
no subject
[hmm. looking at the amazoom list...]
Balding got used on Hung, so that's definitely not something I need to look into. [and he knows what fursome surprise does... ditto with trumpet] Remedy's clearly on that list because of yesterday... even if someone did use one last night, all the ones we were using would probably muddy the waters.
[looking at the powers...]
Passion also got used last week... which makes me think this probably didn't have anything to do with the murder? Sounds more like... [he frowns.] ...those crushes people were getting. I mean, if we're going for thematically appropriate.
[he's just thinking aloud at this point.]
The Mole, Halt, or Backspace... I know Nico's team has a power that lets them break curses or reverse a power use. He didn't tell me the name, but thematically, that'd... kind of line up. And Nimona was looking for someone to reverse a curse earlier... so, The Mole or Halt, do you think?
no subject
[ fox bites their lip. ]
I'm not supposed to influence your decision too much... But I think that sounds right, about the powers. So you're going with one of those, then?
no subject
Yeah, probably. There's always a chance that the curse-breaking power is "Halt," too, since that's... stopping a curse, so maybe The Mole is safest to check.
[and then, mumbling - ]
I definitely need to figure out a better way to get the information to people, too.
no subject
[ a soft laugh. ]
It didn't work out last week, huh? Do you have any other ideas?
no subject
[he just. sighs. a lot.]
Anyway... yeah, it didn't work out at all. Maybe tonight I'll just print it off from one of the library computers and tape it on the courthouse door.
[...]
Or maybe I could buy a burner phone at the mall and send a text message that way? It wouldn't be linked to my name...
no subject
[ given how they are... ]
That could work. Maybe I could help out, too, so you're not caught texting during the trials? If you need it.
no subject
[uuuuuuuuuugh. just kill him already so he doesn't have to angst about keeping secrets from his boyfriend.
him being will not nico]
Yeah, maybe. I was thinking I might send it on the way in, or maybe tonight?
[probably better to time it for start of trial though oocly just since. people will have gone to bed already tonight.]
...I think I'm gonna go with The Mole. Let's see what it says.
no subject
[ fair trade, and all. ]
We could try out tonight and see how that goes over. Just be careful about Nico, 'kay?
[ and ping! go your results. ]
no subject
[he hates it so much. anyway, he looks down at his phone.]
...okay. So this was one of Rabbit's powers, which means Yae Miko was probably the one to use it while trying to get away from her killer. That unfortunately doesn't help much with figuring out who did it. [...] Unless one of the other Rabbits was also up and doing something last night.
[thinking...]
If I got a different phone, could I text just them? To ask if they knew what her power was first? Like... "Are you aware of Yae Miko's team power? What letter did its name start with?"
no subject
I don't know if that'll work, though... All of our contacts are pre-programmed from the hero database, you know? And normal citizens' phones aren't connected to that, so you'd have to figure out how to make that work instead of just doing an anonymous tip.
[ frowning. ]
And... I heard a little about how the last trial went. Would texting someone directly about stuff like that make them focus too hard on figuring out who it was?
no subject
[hmm.]
Maybe. But I could preface it with, "I'm trying to get to the bottom of what happened to your teammate," or something like that... I dunno. I guess I could just put up an anonymous message like, "If anyone knows what Yae Miko's power was, reply to this number in private"?
[and then add on a note like "if you are replying please tell the mods" or something. idk.]
I'd feel a little better about it if I didn't think she used it... I don't think a team's power should be out there just because someone who died had it. It'd be a different matter entirely if it was a team power that didn't belong to one of the victims, because that'd help us figure out a culprit.
no subject
That's an idea. I wonder if they'd be willing to say since it could out a power they could have or switch to.
[ will's right, after all. ]
But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. And you're not asking for details from them, right? Maybe they'll work with you.
no subject
Like - The Mole was used on Thursday, and allowed the user to become practically invisible by blending in with the surroundings or the citizens for 1 hour. At present only one person is known to have made use of this.
People who didn't know might think it was a Wonderball, like the medal. People who did would be able to make the choice for themselves on if it was somethng they should disclose. And if they knew it was her power, they could steer the investigation in that direction instead of me.
no subject
It'll at least give the three of them a head start for figuring out what happened to her. It takes some of the attention off of you... as long as we can keep them from looking into who sent the message too much.
no subject
[he smiles.]
And you'll be in there, so - how about this? After I send the message, I'll come say hi to you and... I dunno. Slip it to you. I'll be wearing a hoodie, so I can have it in my sleeve and drop it off when no one's looking. That way they won't find it on me when they check our pockets... not that they found my dagger last week.
[a beat.]
Although I guess that wouldn't really work next week, huh?
no subject
[ that's right, though. next week... ]
Are you friends with any of the other four? Or, I guess... how much do you trust any of them? Maybe you could ask them to hold onto it for you.
no subject
But I can't talk about this, right? How would I explain why I'm giving them a random phone?
no subject
You could tell them it's from me and I'm asking them to trust us. They might catch on that there's something more going on, but if they have a reason to believe it's okay, I don't think they'll ask too many questions, and they definitely won't raise a stir in trial.
no subject
Alright. I'll mention it to them sometime next week, then, so they're not surprised by it during the trial.
no subject
I think you've got a solid plan!
no subject
Alsoooo... I have a question to ask that doesn't actually have anything to do with the job.
