I was a college student and a writer.

what kind of stories do you write?

You do? What is he like?
I write all kinds of stuff. I'm always trying different genres. Tragedies, comedies, fantasy, action... it's good to explore all of it.

Deu's a great guy! He wants to write a great adventure book, so he joined up with me when we met.
He can get kinda stressed out over the details, but he's a good guy.

That feels normal for writers. There's so many details to look over.

Just Ace is fine. And yeah, kind of! It's not that weird to want to know some of you guys outside Goat, is it?

nope, since I'm not captain anymore.
we're still on the same crew though!

I don't really know the intricacies of pirate life.
Is it because you joined a bigger... fleet?

good guess!
yeah, basically, but I could've joined the fleet and stayed captain of my own ship. just affiliated myself and my crew.
I joined the crew itself instead.

What made you decide to join them? Was the captain somebody you respect or something along those lines?

It might be a little considering Goat is fun to tease, but it is smart to know the competition. Walk with me?

I was hotheaded and wanted to take his head to prove myself. he's the strongest man in the world, he gets challenges like those all the time!
Whitebeard told me to join his crew instead though
and long story short I did!

I feel like this has to be a way longer story than you're shortening it up to be.
Whitebeard must be a really impressive guy if you agreed to it.

a little. it took me a while to agree to join. I can be kinda stubborn.
but yeah, he is! He's one of the strongest pirates out on the seas, and our crew's got over sixteen hundred people in it not counting our alliances, and he thinks of every one of us like family. he's a great man.

Nothing wrong with being stubborn when its something you care about.
That's a huge family, but it sounds like a good crew to be with.
