[ There's a moment of silence as Ponta considers whether or not he really believes that. Ultimately, he sighs. ]
... yeah, you're also just being tossed around right now, aren't you?
[ The new rules are unsettling and having the team leaders as go-betweens basically guarantees that they'd take the brunt of unhappiness regardless of whether or not they had anything to do with it. ]
When we got here, you seemed to trust this city's management quite a bit. Why's that?
It's because they were always good to us before now. They gave us somewhere to stay, they helped pay for expenses and stuff, and then they started calling us heroes because we could help with the people attacking the city. They never gave us a reason not to trust them.
[ Being thrust into the position of hero just like that, becoming the representative of justice to a world that is not your own and that you never asked to be a part of... Ponta's thought it was suffocating, from the moment they got here. ]
Before... I don't think I was that different from how I am now. Personality-wise, that is. But I just graduated college, so I was just figuring out how to freelance when I wasn't busy with the usual stuff.
[ ponta can look! the page they've been drawing has some small sketches of their team, along with some new designs for the storybook cafe, including merch, new cup sleeves, and cute treats like macarons. ]
I thought so. Maybe that's why it was so easy to get used to? That, and I already wear costumes a lot. It's ffun!
[ Ponta whistles in appreciation at the sketches. Both because they're cute and because it's a relief to see that Fox really does seem to care for all of them. ]
[ they look pleased! art is meant to be shared, even if it's just a sketch or two. ]
All kinds! Buuuut I don't really design them - I have a friend back home who's all about fashion and costume design! I've helped him a couple of times, but he usually doesn't need it.
No worries! It's only if you wanna. [ moving on, hopefully to something that will make ponta more comfortable: ] But for now...
[ they turn to a different page in their sketchbook. one of the sketches glows aquamarine for just a moment, and out comes a fox-shaped macaron in their color. ]
What do you think of this? Cute, or would it be too much work for the staff day-to-day? I don't want to make it too hard for them.

[ The citizens say one thing, the leaders another and the mysterious shadow force behind the mayor is doing another thing entirely... ]
So when the other heroes died, it wasn't something like this?
no subject
Nnnnnooo. The four of them died in the fight last month, not... an execution.

What was your job?

I'm an artist. [ holds up the sketchbook. ] I was doing freelance professionally, but I design posters and update websites pretty often, too.

That's super neat! A creative power really suits you then!

What kind of costumes? I bet you designed your own, with how much work you're putting into the café aesthetic.

[ Fox is becoming a whole lot more human to him through this conversation, which is probably a good thing. ]
You probably wanna get back to your old friends too, huh?

But yeah, 'course I do. We all have people to get back to, don't we? I bet you do, too.

Not sure if they want to see me right now.

Do you want to talk about it? Your friends, or the things you miss about your world?

Not right now, but thanks for the offer! Maybe I'll take you up on it later.
