PREMISE
No matter where you go in Oceanside City, you can hear and see the signs of life. Cars idling in traffic, people making conversation as they travel to and fro, grills sizzling, factories running, and everything in between. This city is alive with the sounds of countless people packed in like sardines, going about their everyday lives. Though crowded, it's possible to eke out a living here, provided someone is willing to work hard for it.
Each person's story is rich and unique, but not every story is a happy one. Some take a darker path, turning to criminal acts and villainy in an attempt to make a name for themselves. It's easy pickings in a city this size, where there's too many places for villains to hide and too many people for criminals to rob. The weak and powerless can do little but put out the call for those who can make a difference.
From everywhere at once, you can hear the cries of the masses. "Save us," they say, "You're the only ones who can help us!" You are one of the very few with the power to stand up for the weak, and the city needs someone like you. The spotlights are blinking on, the super suit is pressed and ready to go. The people are crying out for the heroes they need. Will you answer the call?
With the competition looming over their heads, it's up to them to decide how far they'll go to claim the prize and leave this world with their homes intact.
FORMAT
Similar to previous games, Become Hero is loosely based on the Mafia party game, though we will be changing some things to suit this game's play style.
Each week, characters will be faced with new challenges and chances to learn more about the situation they've been brought into, including the murder of at least one character. Those remaining will have to work together to investigate and solve this mystery to discover a culprit to take responsibility for the crime.
This game will feature hidden roles. More information will be given to those who are chosen for these roles. Please note that players with roles should keep them an IC and OOC secret!
If you are not chosen for a role, don't worry! There will be plenty to keep you busy!

SCHEDULE
MONDAY - THURSDAY: Each Monday will begin with a new weekly mingle, posted at 12 PM EST / 9 AM PST. Each week will have new ways for characters to interact with the setting. Mini-events will take place on Wednesdays, and other updates will be posted as needed throughout the week as they occur.
THURSDAY: On Thursday, we will unscreen the weekly curfew toplevel for players to reply with their curfew status for the week! This is the time to tell your mods where your character will be staying during the hours kills may occur. For the purpose of this game, we do ask that players submit their curfew no later than 8 PM EST / 5 PM PST. If you are not able to submit a comment yourself during those hours due to work, etc, we will also allow players to include other characters in their comment. For example, if player B can’t submit their comment but plans to spend curfew with player A, player A may submit a comment stating: “A&B will be in X!”
FRIDAY: Death day and investigation time! Similar to games in the past, we will be having traditional investigations managed in time blocks. A post will go up at 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST with a set of initial locations to explore, and then another set of locations will be revealed an hour later at 7 PM EST / 4 PM PST. Characters in each time block will be given up to two hours to find all the clues they can in the locations. This will end at 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST (or sooner), at which point the body announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s).
SATURDAY: Time for trial! Trials begin at 12 PM EST / 9 AM PST and will continue until 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST. We will also be holding a one hour break for players to step away if needed, starting at 5 PM EST / 2 PM PST. We do ask for players to be available for trials, but in the event that you need to miss a trial, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance so we may plan accordingly.
Character attendance is mandatory, and they will have nine hours to investigate, test theories, and try to solve the murder and vote for a culprit before time is up. OOCly, players must submit their character's vote to a screened post.
Once the votes have been tallied, we will announce who has received the majority of votes.
SUNDAY: Finally, it's execution day. Executions will begin at 1 PM EST / 10 AM PST, though this time may change as needed to accomodate involved parties. Attendance is not mandatory unless your character has been chosen as executioner, but these events will be open to the public to witness.
This cycle will continue until we reach an ending to the game.
Additionally, for those of you who will receive roles, we will provide you with your schedule at the time of acceptance and role introduction.

FAQ
What is the pacing of the game?
Our game will be running on a 1:1 schedule. Please refer to the above timeline for when important posts will go up, and note that we will be posting the times for each time zone in the Discord server headers, as well.
Do I have to be present for every trial?
If something comes up and you are unable to be present for a trial, please let us know in advance! We prefer 48 hours in advance (minimum 24 unless it's an emergency), but if you come to us really early before the trial starts or in the first hour of the trial we will be a bit lenient. If you do not let us know in advance, you will be killed off in-game.
How long will the game last?
We're aiming for a minimum of six and a maximum of eight weeks!
Should a player need to leave the game prior to endgame, please speak with the mod team and we will discuss the next steps with you.
If I die early what happens next?
We will have a graveyard for characters to continue playing in and participating in! You can do open threads on the main graveyard post, or you may have private conversations with other dead characters. In addition, characters in the graveyard will be presented with opportunities the living side does not have access to.
Private conversations?
Private conversations! Sometimes your character (or a group of characters) will want to get together with people to spend time together or share information or whatever. This would become a private conversation that isn't shared with the game at large. Please check out the private conversations page for information on how to set up journal filters and more.
How active do I have to be?
We like to see that players are participating either via weekly mingles, private threads, or both in addition to participation in trials! The game functions best when all players are active and engaging, so please keep this in mind when apping in! We ask that your time be managed well.
Additionally, if you have a role, we will ask for a little extra higher activity to be around for coordination purposes, etc.
How do I contact the mod team for any questions/concerns/murder plans?
We will be operating primarily on Discord, so please be sure to create a group chat with Maple, Mira, Pan, and Ray! Discord is the most effective method for all of your mods, and our Discord handles will be available in the group server.
We also have a feedback post with comments screened, should that be your preferred method of communication.

RULES
1. Please be kind! This game is made by friends, for friends, so we want everyone to treat each other well so everyone can have a good time in a fun environment. Please remember that IC =/= OOC, and to treat everyone else well and with respect.
2. Please be active! There's no need to be around 24/7 and tagging all the time (take breaks when you need to!), but please try to be as around as much as possible.
3. As with past games, there will be secrets in-game and OOC, and we ask that you keep them secret! Some things may come up ICly at a later date, of course, but until they do, please do not share your secrets with others OOCly.
4. Please keep in mind that, due to the nature of a murdergame, your character is just as likely to die as the next, and at any moment. Depending on the circumstances, death may not be limited to Thursday nights. But don't worry - there will be things for the dead to do.
5. Please remember that canon powers and abilities will be nerfed for the time being! While your character may be the strongest most powerful person in their canon, it will not mean much here. Sorry!
6. Finally, if you have any concerns or feel uncomfortable about something in-game at any time, please contact us! Again, this is a game for our friends, so we hope that you guys will come talk to us immediately so that we can get things straightened out and help where we can. Please do not feel as though any concern is too small or insignificant. As mods, we're here to help make everyone feel welcome and have a good time.
