You cook much normally?

Usually every day. Even back when we all lived together I liked to cook, and I've been by myself for about a month now. Either I cook or I have to get takeout.

... She takes the plate, finds a spot to sit, and goes ahead and takes a bite of it.]

So, what, you all lived together in one big dorm, like this one? Why'd that change?

Our old building got destroyed, back when most of the city did. We ended up getting our own places instead of crowding into the capsule hotel.

[rizomata]

[makes sense. rita figured that incident had to do with it, and they just went ahead and answered the follow-up question. (why not use the capsule hotel?)

So how'd you go from that to being a "team leader"? Did somebody set you up with this role?

Mmm, a little of that, and a little bit of personal choice. We've been here for a while now, and we've gone through the same confusion the rest of you are right now. So why not help the newcomers get a lay of the land?

Plus, whenever weird stuff like "people coming from other worlds" happens, it's usually a villain causing it. It's better to try and get ahead of whatever plan they have. My power's not really that useful in a fight, so I have to gather information more.

"Fate Detection," was it? What kind of power is that?

Well, judging by it's name, what do you think?

I can also use the three team powers I gave everyone. Those are subsets of my power.

The "fate" in my Fate Avoidance power seems to refer to death, so... I don't know. You detect death? Or mortal danger? Am I on the right track?

Pretty close! It's about avoiding misfortunes. Not necessarily death though.

But it really only works on the user, and all three of the team powers are like that too. So it's not too helpful in a battle. Mostly I use Fate Avoidance to keep myself from getting hurt really bad in a fight.

Hm... Well, I can't complain about having some extra protection.

What about the others? Transfer and Accomplice?

Fate Transfer is one you use on someone else and it gives them a second use of their team power that week. I...I'm not sure why I have that. But oh well?

Fate Accomplice ties yourself to one other person of your choice, and whatever happens to one happens to the other. So like, if you and I were tied together and someone punched me, you would get a bruise too.

I see. I can picture how those could be useful... though I'm pretty glad I didn't get the latter.

[rita's battle role is usually that of a glass cannon. she's supposed to not take hits. she doesn't take them well.]

What about mine? The... 'Look in a Book' or whatever.

I actually don't know what your power does. But we can find out.

[They use their phone to look up Rita's profile.]

"Take a look, it's in a book"...Probably has something to do with like, bringing stuff from a book to life? We can grab a book and try it out.

I borrowed some from the library earlier, so there are a few we could test with.

[No storybooks or anything, though. If Ox noticed the books lying around the common area, they might have noticed that they're largely about science and technology.

Right now, she is shoveling a lot of curry in her mouth, though. Rita doesn't give compliments easily, but it looks like she likes it.]

And that's okay, Cobalt Ox sees Rita still eating it and will take that as a compliment.]

It sure would be easier if we were just given files on you and knew how your power worked, but that's now how it is here.

I'll be thankful there isn't more personal information of mine getting passed around, besides those creepy profiles in the hero database.

They were light on the details for all of us leaders, which is probably for the better.

Really? I'm not sure why you guys should get so much privacy when the rest of us don't.

You can have privacy too if you want, just make sure your hero costume has a hood and sunglasses.

We're not seriously going to be expected to wear costumes, are we?

You don't have to when you're not on-duty, no.
