[ okay everything was fucking fine actually until he hears "this is vegas" and he just sort of. stops. and frowns deeply into space as he takes a better look around. does this look like normal-earth vegas actually, minus the gazelles...? for comparison.
anyway he is self-aware enough to remember these people are only helping him with whatever job they have to do today and don't have to know what he's thinking about. instead, he's checking the time and remembering they have a bit of a walk to the bar so he's shaking his head and turning to head in the right direction. ]
I'm ready if he is. [ nods his head back at hans even as he begins to walk. let's just focus. is there anything unique about the city streets as they start making their way to the bar? ]
[There's a small tilt of Hans' head, catching one of his companions freezing -- you need to be on the lookout for such things, after all, on a job like this one. Some days he misses working solo, but there's nothing for it when a few worlds come gatecrashing into your hobo party life.
Anyway, he doesn't comment, but does obligingly set out once they seem to have sorted their tiny sidequest and their directions.
He'll be people-watching, curious to see if there's anyone acting out of the ordinary as they get closer to the bar. But also:]
'Nother new city, huh? Either of you got an idea what kinda city this is?
[ It looks more or less like Vegas, but it doesn't look exactly the same. There are cars on the street, there are gas stations on some street corners, there's a couple small game stores. There's smattering of clothed, quadrupedal animals that are running stores, along with humans.
The world seems normal to the people who live here. ]
[ taking stock of the people and animals about. no one else is treating it as strange, so she won't be, either. at least she doesn't have to investigate a casino after immediately investigating a casino, i guess. just heading to the bar*
*she's following the boys' lead since she does not have the directions ]
Nevada. [ he's leading I guess since there are instructions to the bar. animals in clothes seem to be the norm? so whisper is noting them and he's going to just notate their route if they have to go back to the warehouse. ] It's been some time, but it's always been pretty busy.
[ are there other animals or people on their route they can eavesdrop on? ]
Seems like Nico here's the only one who's got a bead on this place, looks busier to me than the last place we were at. Lot meowre animal types, too.
[Truly, what is a Nevada, but he doesn't bother to ask that at this point.
There's a careless nod at Whisper, apparently she is now the animal type expert. This may or may not be Hans just pushing off various responsibilities onto everybody else, but let's call it on-the-spot delegation. That's totally what it is.
He'll just appreciate the scenery. Are there Vegas flyers and ads about, anything to tell them the general context of when they are and whether there's anything interesting going on in the city?]
[ why are there so many billboards... what are these shows... why isn't there jazzy background music and level hazards everywhere, like random pinball flippers.
anyway. ]
Then Nico should be the leader, until we have a better idea of what it is that we are doing.
Me? [ why. ] I don't even know if we need a leader...I don't have any more of a clue what we're doing either. [ he is simply leading them to a bar, watching the skyline...listening to things...trying to figure out why the fuck there are animals in normal clothes. not that random animals is that weird, considering, but still.
there's a faint stab of annoyance at the various billboards. is the city getting less busy, more busy, or relatively the same as they keep going to this bar? ]
We'll figure out a leader once we figure out the first thing of what we're doin', how 'bout that.
[Hans sounds amused, and also distracted because this is a lot more pomp and flashing and lighting and whatnot than the last city -- the last any city, help. He's been pretty good at acclimating considering there's quieter spots in the Oceanside place but here? Ouch. Shaking his head a little like he's knocking off flies before he settles back down.
It's a good thing they don't have a Sonic level on top of that because he'd probably just give up and take a nap.
So how far are they from the bar, it's within walking distance, right.]
[ did our note even say what time to meet here? it just said don't be late, right... guess we'll find out what that means!
whisper enters. what does the inside of this establishment look like? are there any more people/animals aside from whoever we're meeting? do we even know who we're meeting... or do we just know. ]
[ none of them have a license (or in whisper's case the leg length) to drive but who's going to stop them. i guess.
anyway he's truly sort of just eyeing the strip as they're walking and mostly keeping to himself, hands in his pockets and not talking as they approach the bar. car noted.
it is 10:50am and he follows whisper into the bar, holding the door open for hans to follow. in addition to what whisper's examining in her meta, are there other exits? what do they know about this bar, if anything? have they been here before? i assume yes because it was just called "the bar" but just wondering. ]
[Has Hans been inside a car before, does he know anything about motorized vehicles beyond not walking in front of one in certain circumstances, has he 1-v-1’d a sedan downtown, these are all currently questions with dubious answers. Anyway.
He’ll remember the car at least but only insofar as they’ll need some form of driver and his version of that is probably going to need some kidnapping. It’s fine.
Slinking into the bar, where they’re probably underdressed, Hans straightens up to peer around a little; like Nico, he’ll take note of the layout — size, potential number of floors and rooms, and also what’s the menu, actually, we’re curious catting in this establishment of sin today.]
[ You've been here before. There's a back entrance with a glowing green EXIT sign. Feels like you've been here before.
It's very easy to tell who you're here for.
Walking into the bar, this place is classy, wide and clean. Menus aren't out just yet. The windows are letting in the nearly noon sunlight. It seems almost empty. Whoever is supposed to be behind the bar, isn’t around for the moment. Maybe you’re here too early for service, or maybe it has something to do with the leopard.
Besides you, the only person here is the leopard lounging on the bar counter. He’s wearing a jacket that could’ve only come out of the 80s. His eyes meet yours, regarding you with interest. ] Hey, hey. You’re late, you know. [ Under his paws looks like a blueprint of a building. ] You’ve already paid for this, but time is money. Should I charge you extra? Haa, if you don’t work fast, somebody else might get that treasure you’ve been eyeing.
[ ...sure. okay. treasure's fine. he's still sort of just trying to sort out his own thoughts of "literally why are we here, oceanside's that way" versus "we're here for the treasure, why else." it's a weird thought to be having but he's just. going to ignore it. ]
And if you don't want us to be late, be more specific next time. [ he holds his hand out for the blueprint though. listen, if they already paid for it it is rightfully theirs? ]
[Hans would be after the treasure even if it were just Hans -- the whole place is incomprehensible, the plan is incomprehensible, elements of it are completely beyond his understanding, and he has no idea why he's even here beyond the seemingly choreographed bits and pieces of it... but one look at the map tells him this is going to be a big job.
And even if he normally has better things to do than put the cat in cat burglar he's not going to turn down something new and shiny falling into his lap. Unfortunately.
Also, he perks up at the existence of the leopard, and seems to be considering his sense of fashion while the other two are getting into it. After a moment:]
Nyahahaha, don't you worry yer spotted head, 'cause ain't nobody out there that works faster than us. [why is he saying this with such confidence, help] What else ya got for us?
[ he kind of has half a mind to call their broker useless, but decides to leave it until they are out of sight to do so.
anyway he is taking the map and he will carry it with them, gesturing for them to start leaving the bar if they're ready to go. okay. did they happen to pass this building on their way to the bar, or at least have a sense of how far it is?
also do they kind of just inherently know what this treasure is? were they just told it was treasure or do they specifically know what they're going after? regardless, this isn't exactly the first time nico's done breaking and entering to places he should not be going and places he does not want to be seen, so actually...can they leave through the back exit? what is back there. ]
It's the middle of the day. Gives us time to plan our next move and keep an eye on the place for entry points and guard rotations.
[Leaving through the back seems like a useful move if it's allowed, broad daylight does give them plenty of opportunities for planning and looking around; at this point, Hans has spent enough time in these cities to recognize just how late into the night they go and just how crazy the nightlife is, even if he isn't exactly prepared for Vegas. So. Hmm.
Do they have a plan in mind already here -- sneak and seize? Deceive and dash? Smash and grab? Have they been to this area before, do they know the peak and quiet times and whether they're going for rush hour or shift changes and whatnot or is this something they're going to have to figure out? They probably do need to do recon still so just getting a sense of what all knowledge they've got already.
Also like, are they heading straight there.]
An' we might have the way there-- [let's not talk about the car in detail for now] --but we're goin' to have to figure out the way out.
[Do they usually rendez-vous at the warehouse or do they have other bases around here.]
[ once they're out of earshot, whisper is going to suggest quietly (she is always quiet but shut up): ]
We can look at the map on the way there. Figure out best route, get in, and get out. There are three of us, so three different routes to maximize our efficiency.
[ listen, it's not that she doesn't know what cars (or any motor vehicles) are, but she has been the one hitching a ride every time and thus does not consider the fact that none of them can drive.
actually now that i think about it, it's funnier if whisper goes to the front to wait by the car. clearly this issue is going to solve itself without having to think about it. ]

Thank y-- [ oh okay. thanks gazelle. whisper wanders back to the gang. ]
Are you still deciding what to take? [ @ the boys ]

A late night shift today and they have opening. It should be illegal to do this to them.
Hey, did you hear about the new play that started?
I heard that a new boba shop is popping up soon! We should definitely go.
That dessert place would be better if it wasn't that expensive.
