With twin rolls of 11, the creature notices Jolyne and Datz lunging at it far too quickly. From the holster, it pulls out what they will vaguely recognize to be a gun from the shape of it alone, and then it aims it squarely at Jolyne's face with its finger on the trigger.
The creature does not see Rita coming, however. It didn't even know she was there.
Since it was holding the phone up to its ear(?), the stapler doesn't only succeed in knocking the phone out of its hand, but it also hits them squarely in the face. It is dazed by the impact long enough for Jolyne to stab it through the hand holding the gun. Datz can rip the gun out of its hands after Jolyne stabs it. However, he will also need to be careful. The creature's other hand darts out to punch him square in the face.
The phone goes flying down the hallway, right over Rita's head. It slams into the wall at the end of the hallway and falls to the ground with a wet thump. The tinny voice emanating from it sounds infinitely confused.
From room 3-4, the teen runs out with the vent cover in hand and uses it to smash the phone to pieces.]

datz and jolyne keeping its attention while rita just fucking bashes its hand with the stapler works out really well. she makes sure that the hand stabbing also yanks to the side to tear into the creature's appendage, her grip slick but strong before she yanks it out, bleed asshole.
(seeing the teen smash the phone - she looks relieved for a millisecond)
but she will attack again if it continues to resist after this round, if she has to, with the letter opener if it really wants to die on this fuckin' hill. she looks ready to fuckin burn this place down!!!! frankly!!! ]

but they're not in the clear yet. rita runs ahead, straight past the creature that jolyne's trying to grapple with, to the elevator once more. she still has the keys. she'll try to open the gate and call the elevator once more. ]
datz gets punched in the fucking face! and yells OW, WHAT THE HELL, MAN?? and drops the damn gun, which is going to go skidding across the floor behind him to where rita is over by the elevator. hopefully the safety wasn't off yet. ]

[ GRAB IT!! he's going to duck back into 3-3 quick just to grab that last set of scrubs he got out and also throw that at her, and then back up jolyne in holding this guy back until the elevator gets here. ]
[The letter opener tears through the creature's appendage. It screams in pain but it does not go down. With Datz running off to 3-3 and Rita running past all of them to get to the elevator, Jolyne now has the creature's undivided attention. It lunges at her, kicking and scratching and trying to throttle her one-handedly. It is not very successful, given that it rolled a hecking 2, but Jolyne rolled a 3 so it's not like she's doing great either.
The teen runs down the hallway to catch up with Rita, helping her push the gate aside and then bouncing on their feet nervously while they open the elevator. The cabin never left this floor, as it turns out, because it only takes a couple of seconds for the doors to slide open.
[ yeah, no, it's not going well. the creature is trying to throttle her and this is nothing new.

The windows on the other floors are... reinforced. Can't break them. I already tried. But the main floor is open to guests, so they had to make it easier for people to leave in the case of an emergency.

With a roll of 9, Datz isn't very effective in getting between Jolyne and the creature. He may punch it in the face, sure. Kick it in the gut, you got it. But while his efforts to hold the goopy friend back are as commendable as his efforts to preserve everyone's modesty, they aren't what manages to finally get the goopy creature off their back.
With a Nat 20, Jolyne stabs down at the same time that the creature does its best to dodge Datz' kick.
The letter opener goes right through its throat.
Wheezing, gurgling, choking on its own blood, the creature crumples down to the floor while clawing at its throat with its bisected hand. It is dying.]

Now that they're inside the elevator, they are facing a new challenge.
The panel within the elevator indicates that there are three floors total. The third floor, where they are now, along with the second floor and the first floor. The only problem is that, instead of having buttons they can push to take them down, there is a keyhole for each floor.
The keyring they stole from the poor blob who Datz bludgeoned to death only had three keys. Two of them they already know belong to the elevator gate and the elevator doors. They only have one key left to try, and there is no clear indication of which floor it will allow them to go to.]

[They should still have everything they looted from the first body, provided they didn't drop it on their way here. There's nothing in the elevator that looks like it could be used with a keycard. However, the card does appear to be an RFID card. There is a somewhat faded picture of the first creature they killed on one side of the card, scowling at the camera. A name is written right beneath the picture, but it's all gibberish to Jolyne.
There's a hint of the needle visibly poking out of her skin. However, she will need some sort of tool to safely pull it out of her arm.
The key does not work on the keyhole for the first floor, no. However, it does turn easily when she tries the second floor keyhole. The elevator begins to move down. The gang may talk amongst themselves for one more round until they arrive at the next floor.
There is nothing particularly helpful inside the elevator. Datz can spot an escape hatch on the ceiling of the cabin, but it's ridiculously tiny. Only Rita and the teen could plausibly squeeze through. A mirror stares down at them from the upper corner of the elevator.
Datz and Jolyne look just as terrible as they might imagine, with the evidence of their actions thus far splattered all over their faces.
The teen, for whatever reason, pointedly avoids looking up at the mirror. They quietly nod when Jolyne thanks them, but they don't really contribute anything to the conversation, chewing on the inside of their mouth and shifting on their feet anxiously.]
