[The four of you have walked deep into the city, into places that start to look unfamiliar to you. As they walk, it's like a gradual transition into a city that has not been destroyed and is not being repaired by prinnies. In fact, you won't see a single Prinny at all, and if you compare this area to any map of Oceanside city you won't be able to find it.
Ahead of you is two paths: one, bright and cheerful, leads to an area with a high school and college; the other, a shadowed alley that looks off-putting, leads towards warehouses near the docks.
The four of you instinctively know that only two people can take each path. Who do you team up with, and where do you go?]
[Axel and Tama will find themselves at a high school. Both of them are now in uniforms (male or female, their choice) and sitting in class together. The other students in the class go about like normal, acting like there is nothing strange about having two adults posing as students.
They both have been given new powers that are somewhat related to each other: Tama has the ability to see the future in mirrors, and Axel has a special camera that takes pictures of future events. For both of them though, the future sight comes with one heavy caveat: the only futures they ever see are disaster-riddled ones. Deaths by accident, earthquakes and typhoons, Assaults, and so forth. Not all visions have death in them, but most do.
This is especially important for Axel, who has foretold his own death via pictures. They both know that he is destined to die on his next birthday, unless something changes. They can't go to the police, nobody would believe their story. All they have is each other and their wits to keep Axel alive.
But they do have their predictions too. Knowing when and where a disaster is going to happen means that you can do what you can to prevent it. Which is exactly what the Breakers do: stop these disasters from occurring in the first place.
Nah, just kidding. We're not getting too Kingdom Hearts up in here.
There is sure some disorientation on his end, but he thinks he's ready. There is really no other choice. Preventing disasters sounds like it's really up his alley too. ]
Well, looks like we've gotten ourselves into a weird situation. But...it could be worse, right?
[ He's also wearing a male's uniform because he's the kind of guy who doesn't leave his legs bare. ]
well. tama's in the girl's version of the uniform because it looks so cute. yaaay. still, weird that no one has clocked the two grown ass people in school uniforms pretending everything is fine and normal at this school. ]
No kidding. It's like an echo in my own mind -- my memories and whatever's here as well.
[ she has the urge to find and mirror and look in it, like she's confirming what she can and can't do but the visions themselves would probably be disturbing. so, she stays where she is for now. ]
[Saya and Sigrun have found themselves in an entirely different location. They will suddenly be wearing one of twooutfits (their choice as to who gets which), and they will be standing in front of a man silhouetted by light. You do not know his identity, but you have been working for him for years now.
You two are Enforcers, but not in the traditional sense of the word. Your boss can see the future branching out in front of him, and he has already picked out which one is the best timeline for the world, the one with the best outcome for humanity. He has tasked you two with carrying out his orders to keep the world on track, so to speak. Your job is to Enforce this outcome, in the ways he tells you are necessary.
He takes a sip of the glass of brandy he has in his hand, and then he speaks to both of you.]
[It's all so sudden! Yet at the same time, once Sigrun blinks and takes a moment...somehow it feels familiar. Like she has been at it for years, and for this man.
.......
Well, may as well nod. She salutes, dusting off her black coat]
[saya looks around curiously, a little jarred by the way this all seems so familiar and yet— hm. well, that's a problem for later. for now, there are more important things to focus on...? she isn't a fan of the fact that she can't make out the man's features, but at this point, that's just business as usual.
unlike sigrun, she doesn't salute. instead, she hums and clasps her hands behind her back, tilting her head to the side. she is wearing the red dress, her hair done up nicely because i said so.]
[Life goes on after that incident. The visiting teacher leaves, as does the mysterious student with green hair, and a week goes by without anything major happening. It's just living, going to school, and waiting for the next prediction.
It does come eventually though. At some point Tama will catch a vision when she glances at a mirror: one of an incident at a local mall. It's like she's standing right there, and then she sees an explosion happen and the roof cave in, trapping and killing dozens of people.
This time they do not get a specific date and time for the explosion. Just 'on a weekend' since there are weekend sales up everywhere, and the general rea of where the explosion is to happen.
It's currently Wednesday. How do Tama and Axel prepare for this upcoming weekend?]
[A week passes by after that incident. Sigrun and Saya are paid for their work, and they get to do whatever they please within the city while waiting for the next call. But on a Wednesday roughly a week after the incident at the school, they will both get the call to come in once more.
The man in silhouette speaks to them once more:]
I have another job for you. This Saturday someone is going to plant a bomb at the mall, and it's going to explode in the middle of the day. It's your job to make sure that bomb does indeed explode.
It's for the greater good: the damage to the mall is what's needed to get the armed forces to make a move on a dangerous organization in the area. Everyone involved will die in the subsequent shootout with the military, saving an untold number of lives going forward.
You have a few days to prepare. I'm including a map of the mall, including the approximate location where the bomb will be placed. Make sure it detonates, and make sure you're not caught in the blast.
[Sigrun is already reading the map. So, they have to ensure a bomb explodes...wow. The immediate thought...]
Will there be casualties?
[...was that, yeah. He mentioned it's going to be in the middle of the day, therefore...there probably are going to be people walking around, no? Hm...]
[Two and a half weeks pass. The weekend is quickly coming up, and with no other visions to worry about it's time to just focus on school and life in general. All of this is overshadowed by a date near the end of the month though: Axel's birthday. You both know what's supposed to happen that day, and as it gets closer you think it's time to prepare. What do you two plan on doing that day?]
[ Despite the days approaching of Axel's impending death coming his way, he can't help but spend his days relaxing, or maybe making sure to take it easy.
Because stressing over the small stuff isn't worth it. But, he feels like he has to keep close attention to his surroundings. ]
...So, preventing my death, huh? I didn't write a last will or anything. Think I should've?
[ He's joking around, of course... ]
Anyway nonsense aside, I guess I should think about being careful where I go. But, it's hard to say where would even be a good place to stay.
[Two and a half weeks pass with no missions from the boss. It's enough time to relax and enjoy your hefty paychecks, but in the back of your minds you know the next job will have to come eventually.
And come it does. Both Sigrun and Saya get the notice to appear, and the boss is standing there waiting for them.]
Welcome back. Today's task is going to be a lot simpler than the last one.
[Sigrun narrows her eyes when she sees the picture.
........
...nope, doesn't ring a bell]
So this time we're...meant to cause his death one way or another, is what you say.
[Now this is seriously bothering Sigrun because it reminds her a whole lot of the situation in Oceanside. People being set to kill each other, and now, she was being told Saya and she had to murder this kid. If it wasn't for how this place was completely unrelated to Oceanside she'd blame this shadowy boss for this all!
But no, can't think much about that. She passes the picture to Saya]
[The day has finally arrived. Axel's birthday, and supposedly his last day alive. His survival depends on the actions of himself and others, on their resolve to see their path through to the end. Is it better to save as many people as you can in the moment? Or is it better to think in the long term and sacrifice a few here and there for the greater good?
Well anyway the first stop at Axel's house will reveal nothing to the Enforcers. He's not there. It's only 9am and already they have a hitch in their plans.
As for the Breakers, hiding Axel is a good idea. But how can he celebrate his birthday without a cake?]
Anyway he's probably hiding where he is after getting up in the morning (closet...), wearing what he usually wears unless it was recommended for him to dress differently like in a skirt or something. Who knows. One thing is for certain is that he's still at Tama's. ]
[The answers are all accepted, and the man smiles.]
It's not quite what I was hoping for, but I'll accept it. You were an interesting group, to be sure. Maybe in another life we'll see each other once again.
[With that said, all four of you suddenly find yourself pulled out of the area, the ground shifting under you and launching you out. But when you return to Oceanside city, you will have one of the four following items with you:
School textbook: gain an immense amount of knowledge about one topic (user’s choosing). Lasts 1 hour.
Security camera: Take a picture of someone and get a picture of them at some point in the last week. A dice roll determines effectiveness.
Bomb: this looks like a real bomb but it’s actually a smokebomb. Smoke lasts for 10 minutes and is special, the user can see through it perfectly while everyone else can’t.
Poison knife: it’s like one of those ‘fake blood’ knives, but with green poison-looking stuff instead. Stab someone with it to make them extremely ill for 1 hour.]
[You will also have a scrap of white paper with handwritten lettering on it.]
If any one of these teams would be entirely wiped, those teams will become part of this world. Every member will believe they have always lived in this world, forgetting where they hail from. They'll become citizens who will be powerless and clueless during the next cycle.
Part 0: prep
Ahead of you is two paths: one, bright and cheerful, leads to an area with a high school and college; the other, a shadowed alley that looks off-putting, leads towards warehouses near the docks.

casual question for mods too
[Oh, welp, if only we had a scout to go ahead and tell us the best path. Sigrun looks at the paths, nodding]
Guess this is where we split. Are the phones working, so we stay in touch?
[She asks that to everyone but also takes out the phone to find out]
